Suzanne Thaxton Schilling

Suzanne T. Shilling, 75, of Matthews passed away April 15, 2023. She was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on January 19, 1948, to parents Margaret Estelle Jones and Henry Foy Thaxton. Suzanne was a graduate of E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Va. She is a member of Matthews United Methodist Church.

Suzanne lived in Lynchburg from birth to 1979, at which time she moved to Garner, North Carolina with her first husband William Schultz. They moved to the Matthews area in 2003. Mr. Schultz passed away in 2009. On April 27, 2017, Suzanne married Robert Schilling. They remained happily married until her recent passing.

Suzanne loved traveling with Robert, especially ocean cruising. She was very active, enjoying both ballroom and line dancing. Suzanne had many friends, whom she would bar tend for and play hand and foot canasta. Although deaf, she had a remarkable ability to interface with both the hearing and deaf world. Because of her capability to lip read, she never let her impairment hold her back. Those closest to Suzanne lovingly referred to her by the nickname “Pudy.” Suzanne lived a full life. She especially loved her fur babies, cat’s; Moses and Muffin, and rabbit; Honey Bun.

Left to cherish Suzanne’s memory is sister; Margaret Berkey, nephew; Benjamin Berkey, niece; Megan Polak. Funeral Services for Suzanne T. Shilling will be held at 2:00 pm Monday April 24th at Matthews United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
