Charles Blankinship

Charles A. “Butch” Blankinship – After many years battling diabetes, Butch passed away August 30, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 55.  Born October 2, 1947, in Lynchburg, he was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Mildred Perdue Blankinship; two sisters, Jean B. Cash and Sue B. Talley; and a beloved daughter, Lynette Dawn Blankinship.  Butch was a member of the Lynchburg Church of the Brethren, a former sales representative for Barker-Jennings, Inc., and a U. S. Army veteran of Vietnam, serving from February 1968 to September 1969.  He served his country bravely and received several medals for valor.  He is survived by his children, Charles “Mitch” Blankinship and his wife, Tonya, Jill B. Boothe, and Brooke B. Lewis and her husband, Tony; and his beloved grandchildren, L.W., Logan, Alyssa, Cheyenne, and Myra.  A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Karpenske officiating.  Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park, with military honors by the American Legion Post 16.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 7404 Timberlake Road, and at other times at his son Mitch’s home, 7152 Meadowbrook Drive.  Those wishing to send flowers, may consider a memorial contribution to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.
