In Memory

Kenneth Maddox

Kenneth “Ken” Emory Maddox, 67, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away quietly on January 17, 2017 surrounded by his loving family and following a brief illness.  Ken was born in Lynchburg to the late Emory Hatcher Maddox and Kathryn (Alese) Coleman Maddox. His brother, James Emory Maddox, preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Thompson Maddox, two sons, Benjamin Emory Maddox (Elizabeth) and Daniel Harmon Maddox, a sister, Martha Maddox Brooks (Donnie), two grandchildren, William Richard Maddox and Katherine Grace Maddox, two “granddogs”, Flip Flop and Moose, nine nieces and nephews, and six great nieces & nephews.

Ken retired from Babcock & Wilcox in 2014 after 44 years of service, with pride in the meaningful, personal relationships he developed while working there.  Even before retirement, Ken could be found on the golf course or traveling with Jackie. He enjoyed woodworking, grilling, gardening and taking care of his yard. He was constantly in motion. If he was not working on a project, he was already contemplating the next one. Most important to Ken, beyond all of these varied interests, was the unending and unmatched love he had for his family.

A memorial service will be held at Timberlake Christian Church, 20261 Lynchburg Highway, Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday January 20th at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Dr. Robert E. Mooty and Reverend Ann B. Shepherd officiating. There will be a reception immediately following the service for those who wish to visit with the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Timberlake Christian Church, Lynchburg Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society.  Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
