Donald Preston Fuqua, 51, of 1578 Wythe Road, passed away Friday, May 8, 1998 at his home.  Donnie was born February 27, 1947, the son of the late Stella H. Fuqua and John T. Fuqua, Jr.  He was employed by the Lynchburg Fire Department for 25 years and was currently serving as Captain of Engine Company No. 1.  He is survived by a daughter, Leigh Anne Fuqua and her mother Carol of Lynchburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bill Engledove of Lynch Station; a devoted aunt, Virginia Layne of 1578 Wythe Road; a very special devoted and loving friend, Wendy Mitchell; his niece, Teresa and her husband, Cecil Cox, and their daughters, Carrie and Kattie of Lynch Station; his grandfather, John T. Fuqua, Sr.; two half-sisters, Donna Fuqua and Barbara Loving; and a half brother, John T. Fuqua, III, and other loving relatives and dear friends.  A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Woodall-Tharp Chapel with LFD Chaplain Les Davidson and Pastor David W. Crider officiating.  Interment will follow in Springhill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.  Woodall-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements 434-237-9424.
