Garland Hanks

James Garland Hanks, 62, of Stafford County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.  He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Catherine Anne Marshall Hanks.  Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late Glen Arlie Hanks and the late Gladys Mae Wilson Hanks.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Garland Hanks, and one brother, Glen "Teddy" Hanks.  James is a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and received a bachelor's degree from George Mason University.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Heather Hanks-Dietz and her husband, John, of Stafford, Leonard Hanks and his wife, Ashley, of Alexandria, Curtice Hanks, of Alexandria, and Tori Hanks and Catie Hanks, both of Stafford; two brothers, Gary Hanks and his wife, Vickie, of Lynchburg, and Tommy Hanks and his wife, Shirley, of Evington; two sisters, Joanne H. Brown and her husband, Randy, of Concord, and Connie H. Fulmer and her husband, Chris, of Stafford; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.  Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.  The family requests that those wishing to make memorial contributions, please consider the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Youth Mission, 161 Embrey Mill Road, Stafford, VA 22554.  To send condolences and messages online, please go to www.whittenfuneralhome.com.  Whitten Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Timberlake Chapel, is serving the Hanks family.
