Murrell Campbell

George Murrell Campbell, 71, of Evington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 25, 2017. He was born on October 10, 1946 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Hiram Turner Campbell and the late Ruby Legolden Slough Campbell. He was married to his lifelong, loving and devoted wife, Alice Bragg Campbell for 50 years. Christmas is the most special day out of the whole year and God chose Murrell to walk with Him on that day, because he was so special. Murrell got to go home on Christmas and it was God that made it that way for him. 

He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School, a graduate of Central Virginia Community College, he was a Veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the Army. He retired from B&W after 36 years. He was a faithful and active member of Jordan Baptist Church. Murrell was active in the Lynchburg Stamp Club as their President, sharing his passion for Stamp Collecting. Murrell embraced life to it's fullest and had many interests that he was passionate about, including fishing, hunting, working in his tool shop, his tractors, stamp collecting, geneology and so many other interests. His Faith was stronger than any other man and he lived by the word of God. Murrell never met a stranger, if you met him, you were a friend and no one walked away without a piece of wisdom that he loved to share. 

He is survived by his wife; Alice Bragg Campbell; his children; son, Christopher Campbell and wife Laura Campbell; daughter, Ginger Renee' Campbell; his siblings; brother, Reverend Melvin H. Campbell and wife Shelby Campbell; sister, Gaile Williams and her husband Reverend George Williams; his grandchildren; Mercedes Collins, Harper Campbell, Chase Collins and Jonathan Cochran; his brother-in-law; Kenneth Bragg and wife Christine Bragg; his long time friends Larry and Betty Bingham; his favorite cat; Mr. Kitty and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

He was predeceased by 12 siblings; Elmo Turner (Bo) Campbell, Hiram Turner Campbell, Jr., Clarence Jewel Campbell, Carroll Lee Campbell, Bobby Ray Campbell, Louise Myers, Margie Nash, Ruby C. Tomlin and 4 siblings that passed early in life; grandson; Hunter Erik Campbell.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Jordan Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am to 12 noon before the service. A private interment will be held at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
