Richard Dickie Crickenberger

Pfc. Richard (Dickie) Wayne Crickenberger USMC, 20, of 4526 Alabama Avenue, died Sunday, May 26, 1968 from mortar fragment wounds received while on an operation at Quang Tri, Republic of Vietnam.  Born in Lynchburg, he was a son of Orville Raymond and Bessie Trevey Crickenberger of Lynchburg.  He was a 1967 graduate of E. C. Glass High School where he was a member of the Distributors Club.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in August and received basic training at Parris Island, SC.  After additional training at Camp Lejeune, NC, he was sent to Vietnam in February.  He was a member of First Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sandra Crawford Crickenberger of Lynchburg; a son, Richard Wayne Crickenberger, II of Lynchburg; three sisters, Mrs. J. Wayne Blondino (Patricia) of Lynchburg, Mrs. Wayne K. DeWitt (Gail) of Raleigh, NC, and Mrs. William S. Gillispie (Marcia) of Hampton; two brothers, Raymond Francis Crickenberger of Seaford, Delaware, and Robert Lee Crickenberger of Lynchburg;  and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillie B. Crickenberger of Lynchburg.  Whitten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
