Darlene Staples (Lyons)

Darlene Staples Lyons, 73, of Evington, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Melvin Lewis Lyons for more than fifty-three years.

Born November 15, 1948 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late James Edward Staples and the late Doris Christine Williams Baldwin and was also preceded in death by her step-father, Norwood Baldwin, who raised her, as his own; and two sisters, Peggy Burch and Chris Witt. She was a retired interpreter of the deaf, with Campbell County Schools and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bedford.

In addition to her husband, Darlene is survived by two sons, Matthew L. Lyons and wife, Elizabeth of Flowery Branch, Ga. and Gabriel L. Lyons and wife, Rebekah of Franklin, Tenn.; two brothers, Phillip Wayne "Butch" Staples and wife, Gerry of the Dominican Republic and John Staples and wife, Carol of Lynchburg; a sister, Gayle Ray of Fletcher, N.C.; and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with Pastor John Hester and Pastor Ray Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11 a.m.
